Shopping for a new smartphone can be an intensely personal experience, and with dozens of fantastic phones to choose from across the landscape, not everyone’s going to have the same feelings about them all.
While we absolutely prioritize things like performance, features, and pricing when evaluating which phone we want to buy next, we don’t talk nearly as much about another still-very-important consideration: how the phone feels in your hand. Even if you likely end up protecting your new purchase with a case, the phone itself still defines the basic shape we’re working with, and while that’s still rectangles, rectangles, rectangles, we get a fair amount of variation in what phones do with their corners.

Earlier this week we heard a rumor about Samsung’s plans for the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, suggesting that the company could be tweaking its approach to corners with this next generation — instead of repeating the tight, small-radius curves you’ll find on the S25 Ultra, the manufacturer could embrace larger, more gently transitioning curves.
Whether or not that’s a good thing, though, depends a ton on your individual tastes. Some of us want our phones as boxy as a 1980s Volvo (I nominated the Sony Xperia XZ1 for our list of the most beautiful phones for exactly that reason), while others crave a handset that feels as smooth all around as a stream-weathered pebble.
Aesthetics aside, there are practical arguments to be made in both directions too, touching on elements like user comfort and engineering practicalities, but it ultimately feels like a bit of a wash there, leaving this as largely a matter of preference.

Well, that said, we need to hear from you! We already know what our own opinions are about corners (and the team at AA has some pretty diverse ones), but not how you feel yet; so let us know. The poll above offers some broad categories for where your preferences lie, but if you can think of a specific phone model that just had the best-feeling corners you’ve ever encountered, scroll down to the comments and share exactly which one you’re talking about. Or if there’s a phone purchase you later ended up regretting because of some painfully sharp corners — well, we want to hear about that, too!
