Apple announced earlier this summer that 13 new vehicle brands would soon support car keys in the Wallet app, and now it seems that the first two are nearly ready to launch: Rivian’s second-gen R1S and R1T, which first announced support last June. Rivian R1S and R1T launching car keys in Wallet very soon Car keys are a beloved feature for users with a supported vehicle. With a car key in Apple’s Wallet app, you can gain access to your vehicle using only your iPhone or Apple Watch. No need for a physical key. Last year when Rivian unveiled its new second-generation R1S and R1T vehicles, the company announced that Apple car key would be supported. It turns out, however, that feature wasn’t quite ready to launch. Now, over a year later, it seems that’s finally about to change. Long-awaited car key support for these Rivian vehicles appears to be coming very soon. As reported by MacRumors, Aaron Perris discovered that Apple has just activated car key support on its end for Rivian’s R1S and R1T. The feature has not yet gone live for Rivian users, but that should change shortly. In a statement to MacRumors, Rivian confirmed that “while the feature has been pushed live on Apple’s side, it hasn’t yet launched on Rivian’s side. It is, however, coming soon.” Since the feature has been activated by Apple, in this case “soon” should hopefully just mean a matter of days. We’ll keep you posted on any updates. Meanwhile, here’s hoping this is just the kickoff of a big wave of new car key support as the rest of Apple’s announced vehicle brands go live soon.
