It’s not easy to make Lego bricks cute. As fun as they can be, there’s no getting away from the fact that they’re hard, plastic pieces. And yet, the team there has somehow done the impossible. They’ve created an official set from the 1984 classic Gremlins of the adorable Gizmo and, in the process, made Lego absolutely precious. Gizmo, which was a Lego Ideas contest winner last year, is now available for pre-order for Lego Insiders with a general on-sale date of October 1. And it truly is an adorable set. Capturing everything we know and love about the Mogwai, without any of those pesky rules. Feed it after midnight? No problem. Bright light? Of course! It’ll look great. You probably don’t want to get water on it, though. Could warp the bricks. The set costs $110, and here are a few images. “Show your affection for the cutest Mogwai in the 1984 movie Gremlins with a Lego Ideas posable figure of Gizmo (21361),” reads the official description. “This collectible model building set for adults allows you to capture all of Gizmo’s adorable characteristics in Lego style. Assemble the Gizmo figure so he is either standing up or sitting down. Rotate his head and adjust his ears, arms, hands, fingers, and feet to create different looks. The set also includes iconic accessories to make your display even more irresistible: a water splash element, alluding to how water makes Mogwais replicate, which attaches to Gizmo’s back, plus brick-built 3D glasses like the ones Gizmo used to read comic books.” The 1,125-piece set, when fully assembled, measures eight inches high, 10.5 inches wide (those ears!), and 3.5 inches deep. And, yes, it comes with the 3D glasses as mentioned, as well as Lego water, if you want to gamble that it won’t turn into a Gremlin. Though now that we mention that, I kind of want a Gremlin Lego too. The company has made Lego cute, but can we make them terrifying? And bigger? Maybe if this set is a success.
