Supplied by Google TL;DR Google has announced that Auracast is now available on recent Pixel phones. This lets you broadcast Bluetooth audio or tune into Bluetooth broadcasts from others. It also comes months after Google introduced Auracast support on Pixels, but only for compatible hearing aids. Google announced Auracast support for the Pixel 9 series earlier this year, but this was initially restricted to compatible hearing aids. Now, the company has announced full-fledged Auracast support for recent Pixel phones. Auracast is part of the Bluetooth LE Audio standard, and this feature allows you to broadcast Bluetooth audio or tune into Bluetooth audio broadcasts from others. This means you don’t have to give one earbud to a friend if you want to listen to music together, as you can broadcast the audio to multiple pairs of earbuds and headphones. This is also useful for situations like sightseeing, as the guide or establishment can broadcast audio to your existing Bluetooth earphones. Google also points to examples like staying informed at the airport or listening to TV at the gym. Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority? Google noted in a blog post that it’s bringing Auracast support to the Pixel 8 series and newer. It adds that users simply have to scan a QR code on the sharing phone or use Fast Pair to connect their compatible earphones. Pixel phones aren’t the first to officially support Auracast, though. Google notes that Samsung’s recent flagships (Galaxy S23 and newer, Galaxy Z Fold 5 and newer), Xiaomi’s recent flagships (Xiaomi 14T/14T Pro, Xiaomi 14 series, Xiaomi 15 series, MIX Flip), and recent POCO phones (POCO X6 Pro, POCO F6 Pro, POCO F7 series) all support Auracast. You also need headphones that explicitly support Auracast, and Google says it’s bringing these Bluetooth LE Audio capabilities to Sony headphones. Otherwise, earbuds like the Galaxy Buds 3, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and Pixel Buds Pro 2 also support Auracast. This is in addition to products from the likes of Sennheiser and JBL. This news also comes after a rather messy Auracast rollout for Pixel products earlier this year. The feature was artificially blocked on the Pixel Buds 2a, and mysteriously disabled on the Pixel Buds Pro 2 when connected to a Pixel phone. So I hope this rollout is the real deal and goes smoothly. Follow
