Star Wars fans with knowledge of the old lore—whether from books, comics, or games—have long had to console themselves that seeing some of their favorite characters represented in mainstream media would likely never come to pass. But the upcoming Disney+ Lego Star Wars show is doing some of those stalwart fans a solid by reintroducing a much-loved, but overlooked character: Darth Revan.
In the new trailer for Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past, we see a Sith Obi-Wan Kenobi approach heroes Sig Greebling, his brother, Dev, and Ahsoka Tano with Darth Revan in tow. They then engage in a bricky battle riddled with as many quips as there are lightsaber and force lightning clashes.
Darth Revan first appeared in Star Wars 22 years ago in video game developer BioWare’s Knights of the Old Republic. Although he hasn’t fully integrated into the official Disney canon, the character remains a fan favorite as a fallen Jedi turned Sith Lord—complete with a redemption arc. In addition to his pre-Anakin Skywalker backstory, Darth Revan is beloved for wielding dual lightsabers and having a sick Mandalorian mask, adding to his cool factor.
Unfortunately, Darth Revan’s only mention in official canon is a brief reference in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, according to Comic Book. As a result, his big Sith Energy hasn’t made its way into the contemporary Star Wars zeitgeist…until now.
While the appearance of Darth Revan in the what appears to be something of a canon melting pot of a show comes in a more cartoonish manner, the once-forgotten (by Disney) Sith still maintains his imposing presence even in Lego form. Given that Darth Revan was apparently going to appear in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 3 before George Lucas told producer Dave Filoni otherwise—Lucas apparently felt that a Sith existing beyond the grave contradicts the Force Ghost canon—this is as good a consolation prize as any to all the Revan-heads out there.
Darth Revan fans can check out their Sith in action when Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past‘s “four-piece special event” hits Disney+ on September 19.
