Apple’s ‘Awe dropping’ September event is just a few days away, taking place on Tuesday, September 9th. One of the wildcard products that we might see this Tuesday is AirTag 2. You may wonder, what’s so exciting about a new version of the AirTag? Well, there’s a couple of noteworthy upgrades to keep your eyes peeled for. What’s new with AirTag 2 AirTag initially debuted in April 2021 at Apple’s ‘Spring loaded event’, meaning the product is coming up on five years old. Apple has some cool upgrades in the pipeline for the next generation model, hitting on many important issues that the initial model had: A newer Ultra Wideband chip for better connectivity Much longer range with Precision Finding, thanks to that new chip Key privacy upgrades to address stalking concerns With the new Ultra Wideband chip, AirTag 2 will support triple the range with precision finding. Currently, the feature works 10-30 meters away. It could work from 30-90 meters away with the next model, allowing you to find exactly where your AirTag is from an even greater distance. In the past, people have also modified current AirTags to disable the speaker, allowing the AirTag to easily be used for stalking without being able to alert the victim with a noise. Apple has since made software enhancements so users can get notified, but speaker removal still creates a concern. AirTag 2 should address that. It also shouldn’t be changing in design, so existing AirTag accessories should still work even if you decide to buy an AirTag 2. More details AirTag 2 isn’t a for certain launch for this Tuesday’s Apple event, though it is highly likely. According to previous reports, the product has been ‘nearly ready’ for ages, so Apple could announce it whenever it sees fit. Given how this accessory relies heavily on the iPhone, launching at the iPhone event seems the most likely. In any case, though – it could launch a bit later in the year. We’ll never know for sure, though rumors have consistently stated that AirTag 2 will launch in 2025. In the meanwhile, if you would like to pick up the current AirTag, there’s never been a better time. Currently, you can get a notable 20% discount on an AirTag four-pack – bringing it to just $80. That makes it just $20 an AirTag! Thats a substantial discount from the typical $29 price point. If you already own an AirTag, it may also be worth checking out the waterproof 10-year battery case, substantially expanding how you can use an AirTag. It’s priced at $40 for a 4 pack.
