It’s time to collect and play with Star Wars toys like never before. ILM and Lucasfilm just announced that Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset will be released on October 7 exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and 3S. It’s a part narrative adventure, part racing playset VR experience that gives you a chance to live a brand new Star Wars story and also race pods like you would in your backyard. Don’t quite get what that means? Here’s the brand-new, full trailer, which makes it much clearer. The game is broken down into three modes. There’s “Adventure Mode,” where you play in a story as an up-and-coming podracer who is mentored by Sebulba, featuring full VR and mixed reality races. There’s “Arcade Mode,” which is just basically a mixed reality podracing game, and then there’s “Playset Mode,” where you can collect and display all manner of Star Wars goodies. We were lucky enough to play the game at Star Wars Celebration Japan and found it to be a super unique blend of all manner of childhood play. It’s a VR combo of a racing video game, a stand-up arcade game, and racing Matchbox cars on the floor. (You can read our full report here.) Plus, it’s set during the Reign of the Empire, so we get some good updates on some of your prequel favorites “This experience is designed to celebrate storytelling, action, imagination, and everything we love about Star Wars,” Jose Perez III, director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset, said in a press release. “We wanted to give players a new way to step inside the galaxy and make it their own.” Featuring some well-known Star Wars voices like Greg Proops, Lewis MacLeod, and Bobby Moynihan, Beyond Victory looks like it’ll be a fun, unique addition to the Star Wars canon.
