Apple’s big ‘Awe dropping’ event was heavy on hardware announcements, but new software got release dates too, including iPadOS 26 which is coming very soon.
The software update that iPad users have wanted for years is almost here, Apple has announced.
iPadOS 26’s release date is set for Monday, September 15.
New features are heavily skewed toward productivity improvements, such as the Mac-like windowing system, upgraded dock, menu bar, new cursor, and more. There’s also a Liquid Glass redesign and most of the various features coming to iOS 26 for iPhone.
iPads that can run iPadOS 26 include:
iPad Pro 13-inch (M4 and later)
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)
iPad Air (M2 and later)
iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
iPad mini (A17 Pro)
iPad mini (5th generation and later)
iPad (A16)
iPad (8th generation and later)
Essentially, if your iPad can run iPadOS 18, it’s likely to support iPadOS 26 too.
There’s only one exception: the iPad (7th generation) is not compatible.
Otherwise, your iPad is set to get a lot more powerful when iPadOS 26 arrives.
