No more iPhone 17 leaks. At its annual fall Apple Event today, Apple announced the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, running iOS 26 with Liquid Glass. The company also introduced the super-thin iPhone Air (yep, it’s not called iPhone 17 Air) alongside new AirPods Pro 3. As part of the bonanza of new products, we also got several new Apple Watches: the Watch Series 11, new Watch SE, and Watch Ultra 3.
iPhone 17
The iPhone 17 is on its own this year; there’s no “17 Plus” to accompany it. Compared to the iPhone 16, Apple increased the display from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, matching the screen real estate of the iPhone 16 Pro. The screen can reach 3,000 nits of peak brightness. The glass on the display is made of “Ceramic Shield 2,” which Apple says is 3x more scratch-resistant than previous iPhones.
As the regular iPhone 17, there’s again only two cameras on the rear instead of three—a 48-megapixel main camera and 48-megapixel ultrawide. The 18-megapixel front-facing camera has a new feature called Center Stage that lets you take horizontal selfies while holding the phone vertically.
Under the hood, the iPhone 17 is powered by the new A19 chip, which Apple says is… more powerful. Because, of course, it’s more powerful. The device starts with 256GB of storage.
It’ll be available in several colors, including a new lavender.
Apple says it’s increased battery life—up to 8 hours longer than the iPhone 16—thanks to the A19 chip.
The iPhone 17 starts at $799 for 256GB of storage.

iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max
As you’d expect, Apple’s top-of-the-line smartphones—the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max—are even more “pro” this time around, with an emphasis on beefed-up cameras and battery life.
Apple has ditched the titanium frame of the last two generations of iPhones for an aluminum one. The metal may not sound or feel as premium, but it has several advantages: it’s a lighter material, a better thermal conductor, and easier to anodize for more vibrant colors. Although the iPhone 17 Pros are slightly thicker than the iPhone 16 Pros, they should run cooler because of a new vapor chamber cooling system afforded by the aluminum body. Optically, the aluminum frame means we have more fun colors this year, like Cosmic orange and blue.
There’s also a new cutout on the back that’s made of Ceramic Shield. This is for wireless charging. The front glass uses the more durable Ceramic Shield 2, just like iPhone Air.
The biggest upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pros is to the camera systems on the now considerably larger rectangular island that now occupies the backside’s top. All three cameras now sport 48-megapixel resolutions, with the telephoto lens finally going high-res. Apple also bumped up the optical zoom for the telephoto cameras on both models from 5x to 8x, giving you more reach when zooming in from afar. The Fusion Telephoto system can also zoom up to 40x digitally. Just like the iPhone 16 family of devices, the iPhone 17 Pros all have a touch-sensitive Camera Control button below the power button for controlling the camera. Like the iPhone 17, the 17 Pros also have a higher-resolution 18-megapixel selfie camera.
The screens on the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the same as before: 6.3 and 6.9 inches with 120Hz “ProMotion.” Powering the iPhone 17 Pros is the A19 Pro chip, Apple’s most powerful phone chip to date. It’s the same chip inside the new iPhone Air.
The iPhone 17 Pros come in three colors and start at $1,099 for 256GB of storage for the 17 Pro; the 17 Pro Max starts at $1,199 for the same storage. Preorders start today with availability starting on Sept. 19.
