We’re on record saying just how good the new FX show Alien: Earth is but who are we? Just some weird website that writes about pop culture and technology. The real voices you want to weigh in on an Alien show are the people who are a part of it, and at the top of that list is Sigourney Weaver. Weaver played Ellen Ripley, or some version of her, in four Alien movies from 1979 to 1997 and is clearly the go-to when it comes to Alien. Especially because she, unlike original director Ridley Scott, has nothing to do with the new TV show. Well, in an interview with People, Weaver had nothing but good things to say about the show, which is incredibly exciting to hear. “I’m really enjoying it,” Weaver said this week at the Toronto International Film Festival. “What I admire about it is the scope is so much more profound than just an Alien movie. It’s about our world and what’s dominating the world in 100 years, and to me it’s right on.” Getting a bit more specific, Weaver had high praise for the central hybrid characters of the show, led by Sydney Chandler. “All these things are so remarkable, and they’re just building and building and building,” she said. She said she is also enjoying all the new creatures. “And the monsters that he’s also bringing in are just terrifying,” Weaver said. “It’s like, we don’t have enough problems with the alien, we need 50 more. I can’t believe I’m watching TV.” That’s the perfect way to put it, especially from the quintessential Alien movie star. We’re getting a crucial, big-time Alien show on TV every week, which probably seemed impossible when Weaver was stuck on the Nostromo in 1979 or driving a power loader in 1986 (or diving into lava in 1992 or playing basketball in 1997). What could get really interesting, though, is when Alien: Earth actually lines up with the events in Ellen Ripley’s life. We still don’t know exactly what Weyland-Yutani knew that set off the chain of events that changed Ripley’s life. But we think we’ll eventually find out. Alien: Earth is streaming on FX and Hulu. Weaver will soon be seen in Avatar: Fire and Ash as well as The Mandalorian & Grogu.
