Last year Apple introduced Repair Assistant for iPhone and iPad, bringing first-party calibration software to the repair process for devices. Starting with macOS Tahoe 26, Apple will introduce Repair Assistant for the Mac as well.
Repair Assistant calibration works for back glass, battery, display, TrueDepth camera, and rear camera display repairs on a range of iPhone and iPad hardware.
macOS Tahoe will be the first release to support Repair Assistant, adding the ability to install calibration data to complete repairs. Support requires macOS Tahoe 26 or later and a Mac with Apple silicon.
For Mac repairs through the self service repair program, this will allow used parts and previously replaced parts that were not calibrated to be calibrated to ensure the best reliability and security standards are met.
The update to Repair Assistant will enable Touch ID and Lid Angle sensors to be reused after Display or Logic Board repairs for some Macs. Touch ID sensors for Mac will use Activation Lock for protection.
Later this year, Genuine Parts Distributors will add genuine Mac parts for indie repair professionals ordering through MobileSentrix in the US and Europe as well as Mobileparts.shop in Europe.
Repair Assistant on macOS Tahoe or later can be accessed from System Settings > General > About. A section for Parts & Service appears if your Mac recognizes that a repair was made, where you can choose Restart & Finish Repair with Repair Assistant to prompt calibration and final steps.
macOS Tahoe will be available starting September 15.
