AT&T takes a different approach than Verizon and T-Mobile when it comes to promotions, upgrades, and special deals. While its rivals often advertise free phones with no trade-in required, AT&T rarely offers devices entirely free up front. That can make it less appealing to switchers, but the trade-off is that existing customers typically get the same deals as new ones.
The main caveat is that upgrade offers usually require a higher-end plan, whereas new customers can often qualify with even a base unlimited plan. This applies to every deal listed below, unless otherwise noted.
Most of AT&T’s best promotions involve a trade-in, though the requirements are often quite lenient. In many cases, AT&T accepts devices in almost any condition, and even older or budget-level phones with little resale value can qualify for top discounts — sometimes worth $1,000 or more. Still, a handful of promotions don’t require a trade-in at all. These phones may not be entirely free, but they often come close.
With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the best AT&T deals available this September. Keep in mind, this is not a comprehensive list of every deal out there, just the highlights.
The best AT&T at a glance
Get a free Pixel 10 Pro or Pro XL with trade-in, including Pixels in any condition or year
Rita El Khoury / Android Authority
AT&T is offering the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL for free, though you’ll need a trade-in to qualify. The company is accepting any phone that has a value of at least $35, including any Pixel, regardless of its year or condition.
Prefer the Pixel 10, or simply don’t have something to trade in? You can also get the Pixel 10 for $562.36 off in the form of monthly bill credits for 36 months. That brings its monthly price down to just $7.99 a month.
Get a free iPhone 16 Pro or a heavily discounted Pro Max

AT&T is giving you the chance to get the iPhone 16 Pro for free with a trade-in. Like the Pixel 10 Pro deal above, you’ll need a trade-in worth at least $35 to qualify. If you prefer the iPhone 16 Pro Max, you can get it for $1,000 off with a 36-month installment plan, which works out to $5.56 a month.
Oddly enough, the standard iPhone 16 isn’t currently available for free, though you can get it for $700 off with a 36-month installment plan, which brings the price down to $3.62 a month. That said, you’ll also need a trade-in, so in most cases we’d recommend just opting for the Pro.
Get a top Galaxy flagship for free, or at least close to it
Joe Maring / Android Authority
AT&T is offering several of Samsung’s best phones at a sharp discount, or even for free. Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the better offers: Galaxy S25 Edge – $1,100 off (Free!)
Galaxy Z Flip 7 – $1,100 off (Free!)
Galaxy Z Fold 7 – $1,100 off ($8.34 a month)
Galaxy S25 Ultra – $1000 off ($8.34 a month) You’ll notice I left off the Samsung Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus simply because you’ll pay more for these devices than you would for any of the three products above, and yet they have a similar or lower retail value. In other words, they just aren’t great deals. Most of these promotions also accept a wide range of older Samsung devices, regardless of their condition.
Get these great mid-rangers for almost free, no trade-in required
Ryan Haines / Android Authority Iris
Prefer a deal that doesn’t require a trade-in? While there aren’t any truly free phone offers at the moment, you will find several of the best mid-range phones for at least half off or more: Samsung Galaxy S25 FE – $434.36 off ($5.99 a month)
Apple iPhone 16e – $384.36 off ($5.99 a month)
Google Pixel 9a – $304.36 off ($5.99 a month)
