It’s new iPhone preorder day, which means Apple is following the usual tradition of taking down the store a few hours ahead. The store will be back up at 5 AM Pacific Time. Today, customers can order iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air for (hopefully) launch day delivery on September 19. AirPods Pro 3 and the new Apple Watch models are already available to order. The new iPhone lineup spans from $799 to $1199 starting prices. All new iPhones have 256 GB storage as the base configuration. This means the entry-level iPhone 17 is better value than ever. It now has twice the storage for the same starting price, and this year adds a high-refresh rate ProMotion display with always-on capability. The display is also slightly larger, up from 6.1 to 6.3-inches, with thinner bezels. Other new features include the faster A19 chip, a more durable Ceramic Shield 2 screen glass cover, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a new Center Stage selfie camera. iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max feature a new aluminium unibody design, with striking orange and blue color options and a two-tone back. The camera bump now stretches across the width of the phone, allowing Apple to move more components into the protrusion to make room for the biggest battery ever in an iPhone. The iPhone 17 Pro is powered by the A19 Pro chip, which Apple says can achieve up to 40% better sustained performance compared to iPhone 16 Pro. This is aided by the new heat dissipation properties of the aluminium enclosure, as well as a new integrated vapor chamber. The flashiest addition to to the lineup is the iPhone Air. This new form factor iPhone is Apple’s thinnest ever, with a body that is 5.6mm thin. It features titanium sides and glass on the front and back. Apple calls it its most durable iPhone ever thanks to the use of Ceramic Shield on both the front and the back. The Air features a 6.5-inch display, is powered by the A19 Pro chip, and is eSIM-only. The iPhone Air certainly looks the coolest, but thinness comes with tradeoffs; the Air only has a single rear camera lens, only has one speaker, and there are doubts about battery life longevity. The iPhone 17 starts at $799, the iPhone Air starts at $999, the iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1099, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at $1199. Apple only raised the starting price of the iPhone 17 Pro this year, from $999 to $1099, but the Pro used to come with 128 GB base storage. That option has simply been removed, and the $1099 price is the same price the 256 GB iPhone 16 Pro sold for previously.
