Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser and friends will be back for a sequel to 2023's Super Mario Bros. Movie. On Friday, Nintendo released a trailer to YouTube revealing the new movie's title: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
In the video, Mario is snoozing under a tree when a butterfly takes off, zipping through familiar Mushroom Kingdom territory before zooming up to the sky. A Luma star figure cries, "Let's-a-go!" as the title of the film appears. The animated movie is expected to be out on April 3, 2026.
The 2023 movie, co-created by Illumination, made more than $1.3 billion globally at the box office to become the most financially successful game-to-movie adaptation of all time.
The title for the sequel comes from the 2007 Nintendo Wii game Super Mario Galaxy. Related: As part of its Nintendo Direct event on Sept. 12, Nintendo also announced that it's releasing a remaster of the Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 games on Nintendo Switch on Oct. 2.

The 2023 movie featured Brooklyn plumbing brothers Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) transported to the Mushroom Kingdom and teaming up with Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) against the evil -- and surprisingly talented at singing -- Bowser (Jack Black).
Other stars in the first movie include Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
Key members of Nintendo's brain trust, including Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, talked with CNET at the time the first movie came out about how it came together. An important element of that was giving Mario and Luigi back stories that the games themselves didn't have room for.
"I wanted to relay through their role in the drama," Miyamoto told CNET Senior Reporter David Lumb. "It really brought out the more human side of these characters."
