I’ve written before about how Gentler Streak is by far my favorite exercise app due to its human-first approach to exercise. Today, the developers behind the app are introducing The Outsiders, which takes the same approach to high-level training. Here’s what it looks like
A familiar approach to performance training
Gentler Streak is an App Store favorite because, instead of taking the standard “push-it-to-the-limit” attitude to exercise, it focuses on rewarding and recovering for a more pleasant and comfortable training routine.
With The Outsiders, the company behind the app now has an offering for performance athletes who train, rather than casually working out.
The app features the same beautiful interface, animations, and overall attitude you’d expect from the makers of Gentler Streak. It applies it to the needs of driven athletes who need deeper performance insights into their exercise routine.
This makes The Outsiders perfect for athletes prepping for marathons, races, or looking to push beyond their personal goals while trying to minimize the risk of injury or overtraining.
The Outsiders pays close attention to performance and recovery metrics, and leverages Apple’s HealthKit framework to offer a highly flexible experience. You can customize your heart rate zones per activity type, and get weekly, monthly, and yearly trends as far as your health data history goes, for better insights into your performance and evolution.
You can track trends for endurance fitness, cardio fitness, and cycling FTP, and you can pick between polarized, pyramid, or threshold guidance, according to your goals.
The app also offers a detailed in-workout analysis, as well as a map for route tracking. Gentler Stories reminds users that this app is really focused on athletes who train regularly, and who wear their Apple Watch at night, so it can leverage the data for more precise recovery monitoring.
Here is Gentler Stories CEO Katarina Lotrič on the new app:
The Outsiders is a performance training app made for athletes who train with intent. By combining training load with recovery data, it gives clear guidance on when to push and when to step back. It comes with hand-picked metrics that all serve one purpose – to help driven recreational athletes reach their potential.
The Outsiders is iOS 26-exclusive, and has an Apple Watch app planned for later in the year. It is free to download, and offers monthly, yearly, and lifetime subscription plans with an early bird special price to celebrate the launch.
For an 8-person team, Gentler Stories sure is firing on all cylinders. In addition to developing an entirely new app, the team is also updating Gentler Streak today with a complete interface overhaul.
The app was fully adapted to the Liquid Glass visual language, and has a fully revamped Streak tab, alongside new icons, new premium badges, and several UI changes that give it a more native and familiar iOS 26 feel, while keeping the personality that makes it unique.
Here are the key updates, according to Gentler Stories:
Your Profile has moved to the top right corner, and is now the only thing calling your attention up there.
An improved picker for Activity Path, making it clearer which view is chosen and what you can choose among: daily, 10-day, and 30-day view – all with liquid glass effect.
Go Gentler suggestions are displayed as single Today’s Recommendations under the Activity Path – more inviting and easier to act on.
Wellness category elements have been repositioned for quicker access and clearer understanding. No more scrolling to the left – now all “widgets” (vitals, steps, sleep, and period) are in view all of the time.
Insights waving goodbye to the first tab – with Monthly Recap still appearing every 1st of the month.
Gentler Streak is free on the App Store, with monthy, yearly, lifetime, and family subscription plans.
