Reviews continue rolling out for Apple’s latest iPhone lineup, including from noted photographers like Austin Mann and Tyler Stalman. Now Lux, the creators of pro camera app Halide, has published their own iPhone 17 Pro camera review. Lux’s iPhone 17 Pro camera review For those looking to have a lot more control of their iPhone cameras than Apple’s default Camera app provides, Halide has long been among the best apps available on the App Store. Now, the app’s makers Lux have published their review of the iPhone 17 Pro cameras. The photo-laden review took the iPhone 17 Pro to New York, London, and Iceland for a beautiful exploration of the world and how iPhone 17 Pro can capture it. Highlights include detailed looks at: the new 4x and 8x telephoto zoom options big upgrades to the ‘optical quality’ 2x zoom thoughts on the new Center Stage front camera On the 8x zoom, there’s a lot of praise given for Apple’s technical achievements that enabled the feature: The overall experience of shooting a lens this long should not be this good. I’ve not seen it mentioned in reviews, but the matter of keeping a 200mm lens somehow steady and not an exercise in tremendous frustration is astonishing. Apple is using both its very best hardware stabilization on this camera and software stabilization, as seen in features like Action Mode. The review also gets into the apparent changes Apple has made to its image processing this year. For example, one standout upgrade was to the 2x mode: it is truly noticeable that the 2× mode on the Main camera is a lot better. Not only is the result sharper, it also just looks less visibly ‘processed’; a real win considering Apple claims this is actually due to more processing! Be sure to check out the full review on Lux’s website. And if you’re looking for a pro-focused camera app, Halide is a fantastic choice.
