AirPods are always getting better, and iOS 26 recently added a bunch of new features. But a new game on the App Store, RidePods, takes AirPods in a unique and clever new direction as game controllers.
RidePods game uses motion tracking in AirPods for hands-free steering
As first highlighted by The Verge, the new game RidePods (App Store link) enables you to use AirPods as a sort of game controller.
Except you won’t be reaching up to touch your AirPods at all—that wouldn’t exactly be the most comfortable game mechanic.
Instead, RidePods is a racing game that lets you steer completely hands-free thanks to AirPods.
The game utilizes AirPods’ head tracking features that power features like spatial audio, but puts them to use for gaming.
How it works is pretty simple: when playing RidePods, your motorcycle steers left and right based on the movements of your head while wearing AirPods.
I found the mechanic a fun, intuitive twist on iPhone gaming. Would I want to play anything for hours using head tracking with AirPods? No, but it still makes for a unique experience.
RidePods supports AirPods models that offer head tracking features. That includes:
AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3
AirPods 3 and AirPods 4
AirPods Max
You can download RidePods for free on the App Store.
