The Logitech MX Master line of mice has become a staple in the setups of Mac users everywhere. Now, the company is out with the highly-anticipated MX Master 4. It packs a handful of changes to the iconic mouse, while staying true to the form factor that has made the lineup so popular over the years.
One of the big changes to the MX Master 4 is the addition of haptic feedback. Here’s how Logitech explains it in today’s press release:
The MX Master 4 reimagines user control with customizable haptic feedback, delivering subtle vibrations for scrolling, navigation and selection. This tactile precision is ideal for tasks like video editing, design work and data analysis.
The haptic feedback is built into a small panel on the MX Master 4’s thumb rest. You can have to dive into the Logitech Options+ software to really take advantage of it, but once you do you’ll get little bits of haptic feedback when performing certain tasks in apps like Photoshop, Lightroom, and Zoom. There’s also system-level integration on macOS and Windows.
Further leaning into the Logitech Options+ app, the MX Master 4 has a new Action Rings system:
Actions Ring, a digital overlay enabled by Logi Options+, offers app-specific shortcuts and customizable controls to place frequently used tools at your fingertips anywhere on your screen. With features such as assigning commands in Photoshop or automating functions in Excel, professionals can save up to 33% of their time and reduce repetitive mouse movements by 63%.
In terms of connectivity, the MX Master 4 uses a high-performance chip and optimized antenna that Logitech says offers “twice the connectivity strength of previous models.” There’s also a new USB-C dongle, but that’s not included in the box with the Mac-optimized version of the mouse.
The overall form factor of the MX Master 4 is the same as its predecessors. Logitech, however, says it’s more stain resistant than before and replaces some of the rubbery finish for a new textured plastic material.
We’ll have more details and hands-on with the Logitech MX Master 4 in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I’ve linked a few reviews below that are worth reading.
