Spotify is allowing users to exclude individual tracks from their “Taste Profile” content algorithm. The feature is now available globally for free and Premium listeners across Spotify’s web, desktop, and mobile apps, making it easier for users to influence the music that the platform will suggest in the future.
Spotify’s algorithm shapes song recommendations and personalizes experiences like Wrapped and Blend based on what you listen to and how you listen to it. Playlists could already be excluded, but now users can have more granular control over specific songs, helping to prevent particular earworms from influencing future recommendations.
“Excluding a track will lessen the impact of both past and future streams of that song on your recommendations, so your ‘just for the moment’ listening doesn’t end up skewing your Spotify experience,” the company said in its announcement. You can access the feature by selecting a song or playlist, tapping the three-dot menu at the top-right corner of the screen, and choosing the “Exclude from your Taste Profile” option.
