At 31% off, this is one of the best Amazon Prime Day deals. GoPro's Hero 13 Black might be a year old, but it remains the flagship Hero camera, even after the recent launch of GoPro Max 2. The company might be focusing on its new 360-degree action camera, but it isn't losing sight of the Hero series. The GoPro Hero 13 Black was my favorite action camera when I reviewed it last year, and it is only getting better with a price cut this Amazon Prime Day sale season. Also: The best October Prime Day deals live The GoPro Hero 13 Black Ultra Wide edition is now selling at a massive $150 discount on Amazon. It was launched at $480 but is now available for $330 -- making it one of the best Amazon Prime Day deals. It lets you capture 36% more width and 48% more height than the built-in lens (in 4K60). Also: I tested the modular GoPro Hero 13 Black, and it's a fantastic travel camera The GoPro Hero 13 Black is a steal deal with this huge discount Prakhar Khanna/ZDNET The GoPro Hero 13 is small and light enough to carry anywhere. At around 159 grams, it's easy to mount on a helmet, your body, or a moving vehicle. It retains the durable build that's capable of withstanding hits and drops. Moreover, it supports a more versatile mounting system. You can opt for the Magnetic Latch Mount ($25) and Magnetic Latch Ball Joint Mount ($40) to move the camera more easily between mounts. There's another mod called Contacto, which offers a USB-C pass-through door with a magnetic charger on the outside. The Hero 13 Black is GoPro's first action camera to support multiple modular lenses. It comes with support for mountable lenses called "lens mods" and four neutral-density filters. It is different from the Max mod on Hero 12. The lenses now communicate with the camera software. So, when you attach a macro lens, for example, the software will bring up the macro camera UI when you turn it on. Also: This versatile Insta360 8K, 360-degree action camera just hit an all-time-low price The GoPro Hero 13 Black features the same 27-megapixel sensor as the Hero 12 and Hero 11. It's a capable sensor for bright lighting, but doesn't compete with the Ace Pro for low light. But at a more competitive $330 price, this is a solid action camera. In daylight, you get sharp and vibrant-looking footage. Prakhar Khanna/ZDNET This GoPro action camera allows you to shoot videos in Log, so you can edit them later in your own style. Footage maxes out at 5.3K resolution, but the updated HLG HDR support offers better compatibility with non-wide-color-gamut displays. You can also shoot super slow motion at 400fps at 720p or 5.3K videos at 120 frames per second. The GoPro Hero 13 Black also packs a bigger battery (so none of your older GoPro batteries will be compatible with this camera, unfortunately). It lasts about 10 to 15 minutes more, depending on the resolution and frame rate settings. If you are getting your first action camera, the GoPro Hero 13 Ultra Wide Edition is a good starting point at $330. It offers the versatility of mods without an increase in size, and retains all the GoPro goodness from sharp footage to ultra-stabilized videos. For those looking to upgrade, this would make for an excellent replacement for the Hero 11. Looking for the next best product? Get expert reviews and editor favorites with ZDNET Recommends.
