Apple Watch recently gained the ability to alert users to potential hypertension. From today, the high blood pressure detection feature will be available for more international users.
According to Canadian tech news site Mobile Syrup, Apple will enable hypertension notifications for Apple Watch users in Canada later today. The feature recently gained regulatory approval in the country.
The hypertension notifications feature works on the new Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 models.
It also works on some recent models after updating to watchOS 26, including Apple Watch Series 9 and Series 10, as well as Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Here’s how Apple describes its new hypertension notifications feature for Apple Watch:
Hypertension notifications on Apple Watch use data from the optical heart sensor to analyze how a user’s blood vessels respond to the beats of the heart. The algorithm works passively in the background reviewing data over 30-day periods, and will notify users if it detects consistent signs of hypertension. These notifications provide users with valuable insights into their health as it relates to this widespread condition simply by wearing their Apple Watch, so they can begin making potentially lifesaving behavioral changes, or start treatment to reduce their risk of serious, long-term health events.
While the feature hasn’t been out quite long enough yet to begin notifying Apple Watch users, we’ll probably hear about the first instances in a few weeks from early adopters.
