The latest Apple TV+ show is here: The Last Frontier is a new crime thriller from the creator of The Blacklist. The first two episodes are available now. Here are full details and a sampling of early reviews. The Last Frontier is a twisty crime thriller starring Jason Clarke as U.S. marshal The Last Frontier just arrived on Apple TV+ as a new crime thriller that critics say is full of twists and turns. The show was co-created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio. Bokenkamp was the creator of hit NBC show The Blacklist starring James Spader. Here’s the premise, per Apple: “The Last Frontier” follows Frank Remnick (Clarke), the lone U.S. marshal in charge of the quiet, rugged barrens of Alaska. Remnick’s jurisdiction is turned upside down when a prison transport plane crashes in the remote wilderness, setting free dozens of violent inmates. Tasked with protecting the town he’s vowed to keep safe, he begins to suspect the crash wasn’t an accident, but the first step of a well-crafted plan with far-reaching and devastating implications. Essentially, it’s Con Air, but the plane crashes in rural Alaska and it’s a TV show. Sounds fun, right? Reviews indicate the show does have plenty of escapist fun to offer…but you might need to turn your brain off to fully enjoy it: Los Angeles Times: “The production is excellent, with well-executed set pieces — the plane crash, a tug-of-war between a helicopter and a giant bus, a fight on a train, a fight on a dam…The large cast…is very good…Things get pretty nutty by the end, but all in all it’s an interesting ride.” RogerEbert.com: “When a show this unabashedly stupid fires on all cylinders, it can be entertaining. And don’t get me wrong, the moments when “Last Frontier”‘s characters decide to stop spitting out airport-thriller dialogue and get down to bloody business, it’s a hoot. There’s just a lot of standing around in interrogation rooms and giving briefings around chalkboards that surround it” Collider: “The Last Frontier is an engaging, often surprising manhunt thriller that elevates itself through a great central performance from Jason Clarke and smart, unexpected plotting that constantly evolves as the story unfolds.” Here’s the official trailer: The Last Frontier’s first two episodes are available now on Apple TV+. New episodes will drop every Friday through December 5. Apple TV+ is available for $12.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking. Best iPhone accessories
