This summer, Apple launched its first ever public beta for AirPods firmware. And today, ahead of iOS 26.1’s upcoming release, the company has shipped new public beta firmware for testing on select AirPods models.
Public beta firmware is limited to certain AirPods models
Last week brought new AirPods beta firmware for developers. The build appears timed for launch alongside iOS 26.1, which is expected to launch later this month.
Now, that same firmware build (version 8B5014c) has shipped to public beta testers too.
The new AirPods firmware is available only for:
AirPods Pro 3
AirPods Pro 2
AirPods 4

Today’s firmware is expected to offer improved compatibility with upcoming iOS 26.1 AirPods additions—namely, the expansion of Live Translation into more languages.
Apple shipped new firmware to all users recently with build number 8A358. That release, per Apple’s website, contained “Bug fixes and other improvements.”
There are no public notes yet to officially document the changes in beta version 8B5014c, but we’ll keep you posted on any updates as we discover them.
