ZDNET NordSecurity appears to be trying to get ahead of its competitors in the holiday sales this year with a significant discount on its virtual private network (VPN) service, NordVPN. With this early Black Friday deal, you can sign up for NordVPN for only $2.99/month -- a deal I find to be significant, as this VPN is very rarely available for under $3.09 per month, its typical price tag during sales events. Also: Why I still recommend NordVPN to most people in 2025 - especially with the latest update When you are considering signing up for a VPN, you usually have to choose between access for one month, one year, or two years (with occasional six-month and three-year contracts thrown into the mix). As with many industries, the longer the subscription, the better the price -- and NordVPN's early Black Friday sale is no exception. The best pricing is for two-year contracts, split between Basic, Plus, Complete, or Ultimate plans: Basic : $2.99/month (74% off), VPN access : $2.99/month (74% off), VPN access Plus : $3.89/month (74% off), VPN access, plus ad blocking, malware protection, a password manager, and a data breach scanner : $3.89/month (74% off), VPN access, plus ad blocking, malware protection, a password manager, and a data breach scanner Complete : $4.89/month (73% off), All above features, plus 1TB cloud storage : $4.89/month (73% off), All above features, plus 1TB cloud storage Ultimate : $6.89/month (77% off), All above features, plus NordProtect ID theft protection, cyberinsurance coverage Each two-year subscription also comes with three months of free access added to the length of the contract. You can also save on one-year plans, but I don't think they offer the best value. As one of ZDNET's VPN reviewers, I've monitored this market closely for years, and I remember the historical pricing of the most popular VPNs, including NordVPN, more readily than I know the price of groceries. There's a general trend toward slightly cheaper pricing for many VPN services as the year comes to a close, with rivals, such as ExpressVPN, moving to different pricing tiers -- but you rarely see NordVPN available in the $2-$3 per month category. Now, take the percentage off marker with a pinch of salt, as this VPN is usually around $3.09-$3.99 per month at its lowest tier. That's not to single out NordVPN, as the majority of VPN providers do the same. Still, I believe this deal represents excellent value for money. Also: Best VPN services 2025: The best VPNs for rapid speeds and streaming So, what does NordVPN offer? It's one of my favorite VPNs overall and is compatible with all major operating systems. It provides secure encryption and servers in 111 countries, and has earned itself high Trustpilot, Google Play, and App Store ratings. Furthermore, during my frequent testing, I have found this VPN consistently provides high speeds and secure connections. It's suitable for streaming and accessing geo-locked content libraries, such as those available through Netflix. While it unfortunately doesn't offer unlimited simultaneous connections, the 10 it does offer might be enough for the average user. If you've been considering signing up for a VPN, now is your chance. It's unlikely we will see a better price for NordVPN this year, and so I would recommend you grab it before it expires. How I rated this deal Coming in at under $3 a month for the longest term plan, I give this NordVPN deal a 4/5 editor's rating. Even if it's not significantly less than the typical price, it is very rare to get a chance to sign up for this cheap. If you're looking for a top VPN that you can use for years at a low price, this is a great option. When will this deal expire?
