Apple Watch offers a wide collection of watch faces to choose from, but Apple says its most popular is the Photos face, which received two new features in watchOS 26.
Photos watch face gets two watchOS 26 improvements
watchOS 26 arrived last month as a bigger-than-usual release for new and improved watch faces.
The update introduced four brand new watch faces, plus brought a big expansion of always-on seconds to many existing faces.
Apple revealed a few years back that the Photos watch face is the most popular among users. And there’s little reason to think that’s changed since then.
One sign of the Photos face’s ongoing popularity is that it’s the only face Apple regularly improves through watchOS software updates.
For example, last year watchOS 11 brought new customization options for the face, and the ability to get relevant photo suggestions based on machine learning analysis.
In watchOS 26, Apple has two more upgrades for the Photos face.
Featured photos option Liquid Glass time
Joining existing photo shuffle options like People, Nature, and Cities, you can now choose ‘Featured’ as your photo source.
This works similarly to the Featured images you might see inside the iPhone’s Photos app or use with an iOS Home Screen widget.
Essentially, choosing Featured means you’ll see a broad set of quality watch face photos selected for you. You won’t be limited to a specific type of photo (like ‘Nature’), nor will you need to choose a specific collection or album.
Liquid Glass is a great fit for the Photos face because it lets more of your photos shine through.
When editing the Photos face, scroll down to the Time Color section and you’ll find a new ‘Glass’ color option.
If you prefer having a specific solid color instead, that’s still an option. Glass is simply an addition to the existing color library.
