Update 1, August 18, 2025 (3:27 PM ET): Google has now officially announced the roll out of full scheduling capabilities for older Nest Thermostats in the Google Home app. This functionality started rolling out last week, as we first reported, and it’s hitting the following four models: Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat 3rd gen (UK/EU) Nest Thermostat E Nest Thermostat E (UK/EU) Google has confirmed that your existing schedules from the Nest app will carry over to the Home app. Furthermore, the company has also mentioned that it has made a couple of other improvements across its Nest thermostat lineup. This includes making it easier to see your thermostat’s heating and cooling state in the Home app as well as a refreshed energy dashboard that shows separate totals for heating and cooling, a breakdown of usage by state and heating type, and a weekly year-over-year comparison of your monthly energy usage. Original article, August 14, 2025 (4:24 PM ET): Back in April, Google made the controversial decision to end support for several older Nest Thermostats, pushing users toward the latest 4th gen model. Thankfully, the popular Gen 3 and E models were spared, saving many from a forced upgrade. Better yet, Google also announced it would finally add scheduling support for these models to the Google Home app — a move addressing the last major reason many people still use the old Nest app. The company didn’t give a timeline for when these scheduling functions would roll out, but I noticed the other day that the feature is finally available for me.
