Why we like it: Samsung made an astonishing leap forward in its 2025 foldable phones, which was great to see after several years of iterative designs. The new Z Fold 7 features its thinnest (4.2 mm) and lightest (215 grams) design yet, making the device feel more like a traditional handset when folded, and a super sleek tablet when unfolded.
It helps that the Android operating system has been steadily improving for foldables as well. More and more apps are starting to take advantage of the extra space a foldable provides. Android 16 also adds a new multitasking option called 90/10. This allows you to have two full-size apps side by side. The larger app takes up 90% of the screen while its companion has just an edge showing in the other 10%. Tap on that, and the apps switch places. It's a multitasking dream.
Samsung's other key improvements include Gemini on the device, which is accessible in split screen mode, floating windows, and, of course, Dex, which can turn your foldable screen into a windowed desktop. Samsung rounds all this out with a 200-megapixel main camera, which we found to be nearly as reliable as the S25 Ultra's main sensor, with crisp and vivid shots captured at various distances.
Review: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
Who it's for: Rather than trying to describe what kind of person would use this phone, it might be better to describe the kinds of apps that work best on this phone. If you're a person who uses these apps, then it'd be a good idea to start looking for some deals.
Reading on the Z Fold 7 is an absolute treat. Books, documents, spreadsheets, and the like all ache to spread out on a candybar form factor. The open screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 gives you so much more room to consume content.
Personally, I have spent hours in lines at amusement parks reading my Kindle app, and it's lovely when it gets that large. I also attend trade shows with a Google Sheets spreadsheet laying out my appointments and vendors I need to meet with. I won't go to a trade show without a book-style foldable.
Also, as a traveler, I find myself in new locations fairly often, so being able to see the area around me on a larger canvas can be helpful for finding places to eat or generally navigating. Plus, there are a ton of other use cases; I haven't even scratched the surface. So if you fall into any of those camps, this is a great phone to have.
Who should look elsewhere: Fans of Samsung's S Pen stylus won't love this phone. Unlike the previous two generations of the Galaxy Z Fold, this phone no longer supports it. It's never great when you ask for $1,999 or more and then remove functionality. Samsung undoubtedly had its reasons, but that doesn't make it a popular choice.
Speaking of which, this phone costs almost $2,000. That's a hard number to swallow for the budget-conscious among us. Yes, the technology is cool, but it's really hard to justify doubling the price of most other flagships. Finally, people looking for long battery life might want to look elsewhere. The 4,400mAh battery isn't bad, but it's also not great. If you use the phone open, often, you're going to wear down that battery pretty fast.
