In 2015 and 2017, director S.S. Rajamouli released a two-part fantasy epic for the ages. Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion told the sweeping tale of a lost prince’s rise to power in a cruel and unforgiving kingdom, each of which became one of India’s highest-grossing films of all time. Now, coming off the even greater global popularity of Rajamouli’s Oscar-winning action spectacle RRR, he’s reedited the two films into one, and it’s getting a U.S. theatrical release. To celebrate the saga’s 10-year anniversary, the newly retitled Baahubali: The Epic will be released in theaters on October 31, and to celebrate, here’s a brand new trailer. “Before RRR took the world by storm, master filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli redefined Indian cinema with his two-part Baahubali saga,” reads a press release. “Now, the epic tale of royalty, revenge, kings, and wars has been personally re-edited by the master himself from two films into a single unforgettable cinematic experience, with fully remastered picture and sound (and a few new surprises), so audiences can reunite to experience the euphoria the way it was intended: on the big screen, together.” Which is basically what Quentin Tarantino did with Kill Bill, only that got a much smaller release. Baahubali: The Epic looks like a film that lives up to that title and so much more. The perfect follow-up for fans of the brilliance of RRR (which includes us at io9, but also the likes of Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, and so many others) to see that Rajamouli was making films like that long before. And, of course, he’s making another one now. We recently saw a brief tease of the still untitled new S.S. Rajamouli film, but it’s described as “a globe-trotting adventure inspired by the Indiana Jones and James Bond franchises.” No word on when we’ll learn more about that but until then, Baahubali can keep us company.
