Something is bricking Nest Hub smart displays, but a fix is on the way (Updated)

TL;DR Owners of the first-gen Nest Hub report recent device failures, freezing up during the boot process. Attempts to factory reset the hardware have not been successful at restoring operation. It’s possible a recent firmware update may play a role, but Google has yet to confirm anything. Update, May 16, 2025 (09:41 PM ET): We’ve heard back from Google, and the company confirms that it’s aware of these reports, and has a fix rolling out. Google’s solution is scheduled to hit all Nest Hub units by sometime early next week.
