The VSCO app is adding yet another AI-based feature to help photographers with their workflows: promo-based image editing. Here’s how it works.

Last year, VSCO debuted the AI Lab tool in partnership with AI lab Black Forest Labs, promising to offer an ever-growing set of AI-based features to help pro and amateur photographers with their workflows.
Since then, VSCO users have been using the Remove and Upscale tools, leveraging Black Forest Lab’s FLUX.1 Kontext model, in addition to VSCO’s own “proprietary, purpose-built technology”.
Now, VSCO’s AI Lab is rolling out its third tool, Prompt, which edits images based on user-provided written descriptions. Here’s VSCO on the new feature:

Despite general public pessimism, AI adoption accelerates among photographers
VSCO tells 9to5Mac that it commissioned a survey with 400 professional and aspiring photographers in North America (not limited to VSCO customers) to better understand how AI is already being used in real-world creative workflows, as well as where it still falls short.
According to preliminary results, 83% of respondents reported already using AI in their work. That includes 29% who started using it in 2025, and 38% who have been using it for longer.
