Storage capacities are one of the few things that seems to actually be going down in price these days. It’s becoming easier and easier for engineers to deliver us more and more data in smaller and smaller packages. Just a handful of years ago, the thought of a single terabyte seemed like a joke. Now you can get twice that on a microSD card about a centimeter long.
Well, friends this might be the most affordable I’ve ever seen storage when looking at a per-byte level. Western Digital has a huge external hard drive capable of storing 20TB. Right now, Amazon has dropped it from its launch price of $550 to just $279. That works out to roughly a penny per gig. I guess about a penny and a half, but still. That’s incredible.
