In a stunning piece for The Atlantic on Monday, the magazine's editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg revealed that he had accidentally been added to a Signal group chat between key national security personnel — including Hegseth, vice president JD Vance, and national security advisor Mark Waltz — as they discussed an upcoming offensive in Yemen. Not only was the use of Signal a reckless departure from the norms designed to stop highly sensitive information from landing in the wrong hands, but nobody noticed that a prominent journalist had been added to the chat, itself a farcical error.
