CNET Survey: Worries Over Tariff Price Hikes Are Pushing Americans to Buy Tech Sooner

President Donald Trump has a slew of tariffs expected to go into effect within the next week. That's on top of several new tariffs already imposed this year. In the past two months, the administration has enacted 20% tariffs on imports from China, a move that's already spiking prices on imported tech like laptops, TVs and gaming systems. A 25% tariff on foreign cars and parts also recently went into effect. Starting April 5, there's a 10% baseline tariff on all imports. Reciprocal tariffs for select countries, including 34% for China, 20% for the European Union, 26% for India, 24% for Japan and 10% for the United Kingdom that will go into effect on April 9. The president claimed the tariffs are a response to other country's tariffs currently imposed on the US. When tariffs are implemented, the importer pays the tax.
