TikTok Ban: Is Time Running Out?

TikTok may be running out of time. The wildly popular social media app faces a Saturday deadline to sell itself to a buyer deemed fit by US officials or face being banned in this country. However, plenty could happen before then. Several potential bidders have made their interest known in recent months, and it's entirely possible that President Donald Trump could once again choose to extend the sale deadline. Trump was set to meet with members of his administration on Wednesday to discuss a possible deal that would set up a new TikTok ownership structure, The New York Times reported, citing a pair of anonymous sources familiar with the plan. The new ownership structure, the sources said, could include private equity firm Blackstone and the tech company Oracle. The Times also reported in a separate Wednesday story that Amazon had thrown its hat into the ring with its own last-minute bid.
