RCS setup in Google Messages keeps failing? Here’s how to (maybe) fix it (Update: Google response)

Update, April 4, 2025 (12:44 PM ET): We have now heard back from Google regarding our inquiry into this problematic Messages behavior, and the company confirms that it has both received these reports, and is doing something about them: We’re aware of an issue affecting a set of Google Messages users and have a fix rolling out in an update next week. We appreciate the feedback and will continue to work quickly to address any messaging issues users might have.
