Stripe shows developers how to bypass Apple’s in-app payment cut

Payments processor Stripe has published new documentation for developers looking to accept out-of-app payments for digital goods and subscriptions on iPhone and iPad.
The move follows a court ruling that bars Apple from preventing developers from directing users to web-based payment options from within their apps.
Stripe charges a standard 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction — significantly lower than Apple’s 15–30% commission on in-app purchases. The key tradeoff is that Apple’s in-app purchase system provides a native interface, and Apple handles subscription management and payment security on the developer’s behalf.
By contrast, integrating Stripe requires more development effort and shifts more responsibility to the app maker — such as managing the checkout flow, handling subscriptions, and ensuring compliance. However, Stripe offers greater flexibility, broader payment options, and developer control.
