TL;DR The Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers the highest level of water and dust protection on a phone.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers very limited protection from dust and water ingress.
That said, based solely on fold ratings, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may survive longer than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Google has launched the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and it’s shaping up to be quite an attractive foldable, at least from what we’ve seen so far. The one thing it lacks, though, is an ultra-thin body that can rival the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Samsung’s foldable is one of the best flagship phones I’ve held in 2025, and given that it’s a foldable phone, its slim profile is all the more impressive. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is noticeably chunkier, measuring 10.1mm thick compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s slim 8.9mm profile when folded. However, while Samsung prioritized a thinner design, Google used the extra bulk to give the Pixel 10 Pro Fold a significant durability edge.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is IP68 certified compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s IP48 rating. Why is that a big deal? Well, for foldable phones, durability is a major concern, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s IP68 rating is significantly superior to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s IP48. IP68 means the foldable Pixel is fully dust-tight and can survive full submersion in water, while IP48 only offers very limited dust protection and resistance to light splashes. In practice, that means the Pixel can handle far harsher real-world conditions, like a day at the beach or an accidental dunk in fresh water, without the same risk of damage, a huge reassurance for an expensive and complex device with moving parts.

But who would win in terms of longevity? That would likely be Samsung. Google claims the inner OLED panel of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold can survive over 10 years of folding thanks to the re-engineered Ultra-Thin Glass, a dual-layer anti-impact film, and the new gearless hinge. If you do the math for 10 years based on 50 folds a day, a number Google has provided in its official documentation, that would mean the phone can survive around 182,600 folds. Let’s round it off to 200,000 folds since Google says it can fold and unfold for over 10 years.
Still, the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s display is rated for 500,000 folds, which is more than double what Google is promising with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Samsung’s phone also recently completed a real-world manual folding test, where it was folded and unfolded by hand 200,000 times, and it survived, apart from a speaker breakdown.

In summary, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has certainly achieved a big milestone for foldable phones by gaining an IP68 rating. Perhaps we could see more foldable phones adopt the same in the future, but for now, it’s the only one on the market that’ll offer this level of water and dust protection to you from the get-go. Meanwhile, only time or another manual folding test can tell if it can survive longer than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 when it comes to display and hinge durability.
