Let's talk about calculus. It's an extremely important field for almost all branches of science, and you've probably seen at least some aspects of it during high school or possible further education. Applications range from physics, chemistry, and electrical engineering to finance, medicine, meteorology, and much more.
Fundamentally, calculus is the mathematical field concerned with studying changes in continuous quantities. (Discrete quantities are those that are in some sense "countable". E.g., one apple, two apples, et cetera. Whereas continuous quantities are not countable, and can take any value in an entire range. E.g., a bottle of water may be 0% filled, 100% filled, or any value in between.) In simple terms, the two key problems calculus answers are, given some mathematical function:
