Microsoft announced further restructuring at Xbox as part of cuts affecting roughly 3,200 employees, consolidating several studios and shifting development of Halo to a different team. Obsidian is moving from Xbox Game Studios to Bethesda to focus on Fallout, Microsoft's casual games like Minesweeper and Solitaire are shifting to King, and Playground and Turn 10 are merging into a single studio.
Microsoft will let anyone buy cloud gaming playtime hours through the Xbox Store starting in November, letting non-subscribers stream eligible owned games without Game Pass. At the same time, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will face a new monthly cap of just 15 cloud gaming hours, pushing heavy users toward buying extra hourly bundles. Microsoft is also testing a free, ad-supported cloud gaming tier for Xbox Insiders.
Tim Curry, the actor best known for originating the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the stage and film versions of The Rocky Horror Show, has died. Curry rose to prominence in London's original cast of Hair before collaborating with Richard O'Brien to shape the iconic transvestite mad-scientist character, ultimately performing it across London, Los Angeles and New York.
