Meta's camera-free Ray-Ban audio glasses offer longer battery life, clearer calls

Engadget's review of Meta's audio-only Ray-Ban glasses found six microphones and open-ear speakers that matched the sound quality of prior Gen 2 models, with testers reporting clearer phone calls than with AirPods Pro. Meta says the frames last up to 12 hours with mixed use or six hours of continuous audio, and the reviewer still had about 50% battery after five hours of streaming plus a one-hour call. The glasses retain most Meta AI features like live translation and navigation, but the customizable action button offers only two options compared with more on camera-equipped models.

iPhone Duo foldable ships without telephoto lens or variable aperture

Apple's iPhone Duo foldable has two 48-megapixel rear cameras, a main and an ultrawide, but lacks the dedicated telephoto camera found on the iPhone 18 Pro. Both phones can crop into their 48MP sensors for 2x zoom, but only the 18 Pro offers up to 8x 'optical quality' zoom via its 4x telephoto lens. The Duo also omits variable aperture, another headline feature of the 18 Pro, relying instead on a fixed aperture like earlier iPhones.

Meta launches camera-free Ray-Ban Audio smart glasses from $349

Meta has released two new camera-free Ray-Ban smart glasses models, the Clubmaster and Burbank, priced between $349 and $429 for frames alone depending on lens options. Removing the camera makes the glasses lighter (43-47 grams versus over 50 grams for camera models) and improves battery life, but they remain pricier than Meta's existing $249 camera-equipped glasses.

ai-deslop npm package adds Oxlint rules targeting AI-generated TypeScript patterns

A developer released ai-deslop, an npm package bundling Oxlint rules aimed at flagging common low-quality patterns found in AI-generated TypeScript code, such as chained type assertions, unsafe use of 'unknown' types, and object-typed function parameters. The rules combine ones vendored from dmmulroy/anti-slop with additional checks, all under a deslop/* namespace, and ship as compiled JavaScript compatible with any Oxlint JS-plugin runtime including Bun, Deno, or Node.js.

Apple clarifies how HomeView identifies users without Face ID

Apple's new HomeView smart display can recognize up to six people, but John Gruber reports that recognition requires a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, not an Apple Watch. That device must be connected to the home's Wi-Fi network and have been recently unlocked for HomeView to identify a user by face or voice. HomeView costs $299, is available for pre-order now, and ships November 13.

Apple Unveils Home Security Line With LG and Schneider Electric, Including $349.95 Smart Lock

At its 'Welcome Home' event, Apple introduced an Apple Home Collection of smart home security devices built with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, including multiple security cameras and a smart lock with a circular, twistable keypad priced at $349.95. Apple's VP of hardware engineering, Matthew Costello, said the products are designed to work seamlessly with Apple Home for simple, reliable and private home management.

Ghostscript flaw CVE-2026-39919 enables remote code execution via crafted PDFs

Wordfence researchers using their Argus AI system found a critical heap buffer overflow in Ghostscript, the PostScript/PDF rendering engine used by tools like ImageMagick and WordPress's thumbnail generator. A malicious PDF embedding a JPEG 2000 image can force Ghostscript to write far more data than a buffer can hold, corrupting memory and allowing unauthenticated remote code execution. The bug affects Ghostscript versions 9.21 through 10.07.1 and was confirmed present across ten tested Linux distributions and an official WordPress Docker image.

Paris Auto Show debuts reveal small, affordable EV concepts absent from US market

At the Paris Auto Show's media day, European automakers including Stellantis brands Citroen, Peugeot and Fiat, along with Renault, unveiled a wave of new concept cars, many reviving classic nameplates. Citroen's 2 CV Concept, for example, emphasizes affordability, lightness and practicality, but none of these vehicles are expected to reach the United States.

Linus Torvalds releases Linux kernel patches co-written with Anthropic's Claude Code

Linus Torvalds submitted a set of kernel patches that address a page-cache contention bug causing memory slowdowns on multi-core, multi-thread systems. In his Git submission, Torvalds said the code, test programs, review and first draft of the accompanying text were produced with Claude Code, an AI coding assistant, under his direction. The bug, known since 2024, involves atomic reference-count updates to a shared cache line that force processor cores to compete, slowing performance in workloads with many concurrent small reads.
