Microsoft will add .msix and .msixbundle files to Outlook's default blocked attachment list starting early November, rolling out to Exchange Online users with general availability expected by mid-November. Researchers flag AI agent fleet likely tied to Tencent scraping Alibaba's Amap maps

Security researchers at the Swarmchasers group say a fleet of AI agents, probably built on Tencent's Hy models, spent more than a week pulling navigation data from Alibaba's Amap mapping service via the urlquery.net sandbox tool. The fleet peaked at 1,810 URL scans on October 4, targeting entrance-usage data at locations like zoos, parks and hospitals, running on Tencent Cloud behind a proxy. Some scans were labeled 'claude,' but the underlying code reportedly resembles Chinese models rather than Anthropic's.

Developer tool emerges to strip Apple Intelligence from Macs amid storage, policy concerns

An independent developer released a project called RemoveMacAI that lets users disable Apple Intelligence and delete downloaded Siri AI models from their Macs, reclaiming storage that can reach 14GB. Apple currently offers only partial controls through device management to restrict certain AI features, not a full removal option, and using the unofficial tool carries risks since AI is deeply integrated into macOS 27.

The same update adds new integrations for the iPhone version, including Canva, Dropbox, Figma, QuickBooks, GitHub, Zoom, Asana, Klaviyo, Granola, and Notion, plus a feature letting small business owners set a goal for Muse to autonomously plan marketing and product pages around.

PSP Recomp project runs God of War: Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta in-browser via WebAssembly

A developer has released PSP Web Recomp, a tool that translates decompiled PSP game executables into C++ and compiles them to WebAssembly, pairing the output with a reimplemented PSP operating system and a WebGL2 graphics layer. Using disc images supplied by the user, it runs God of War: Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta directly in Chrome and Firefox, including on phones with touch controls, at 60 frames per second and higher-than-native resolutions, though in-game movies are currently skipped.

Chrome 155 adds native JPEG XL decoding support

Google says Chrome 155 will support decoding JPEG XL (.jxl) images, a format offering 30-50% better compression than JPEG, lossless compression, HDR support, and lossless JPEG transcoding. The decoder was rebuilt in Rust, via the jxl-rs project, to improve memory safety while matching the performance of existing C++ implementations.

Study: DeFi flash loan exploits now target protocol logic, not price oracles

A peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Financial Crime examined 72 flash loan attacks between February 2020 and July 2024 that drained $1.211 billion from DeFi platforms, part of 254 total attacks costing $6.568 billion across 20.63 billion transactions on seven blockchains. The researchers found that attacks exploiting flaws in protocol logic rose from 28% of flash loan losses in the first two years of the study to 55% in the most recent period, overtaking price oracle manipulation as the dominant technique.

Weizmann Institute researchers unveil AI that reconstructs images from brain scans

Scientists led by Michal Irani at the Weizmann Institute built an AI 'brain decoder' that analyzes fMRI scans to reconstruct images a person is viewing. The system was trained on high-resolution public brain scan data from eight subjects and uses a diffusion model to generate visual recreations of what the person saw, with the work presented at two recent conferences.
