Report: US households hold $750B in unappraised gold jewelry amid generational wealth transfer

A Bloomberg report cited by industry sources estimates that as Baby Boomers pass down roughly $93 trillion in assets over the next two decades, U.S. households collectively hold about $750 billion in unappraised gold jewelry. Startup Unvault's 2026 estimate puts the average household's gold jewelry value at $5,700, a figure that excludes silver, platinum, gemstones and designer premiums. The report also notes boomers hold about $1 trillion in art and $570 billion in collectible cars headed for inheritance.
