Huawei has unveiled the Mate XT 2, an updated version of its trifold smartphone that refines the original design and borrows some interface and hardware ideas from Samsung's foldable devices. The device carries a price tag exceeding $3,000, positioning it firmly in the ultra-premium tier of the smartphone market.
Huawei launched the Mate XT 2 in China, its third trifold phone, switching to an inward-folding design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold rather than the accordion style of prior models. The device also introduces a privacy OLED screen, akin to the one on Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra, that narrows viewing angles to shield content from onlookers when enabled as a paid option.
Huawei has started taking pre-orders in China for its second-generation tri-fold phone, the Mate XT 2, ahead of a formal launch on September 7. The device switches to an inward-folding mechanism that fully shields the inner display, unlike the zig-zag fold on the original Mate XT that left part of the screen exposed, and will come in 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB configurations, including a purple variant with a built-in privacy screen.
