Delft researchers give micro-drones whisker sensors for touch-based navigation

Engineers at Delft University of Technology built a lightweight whisker-based tactile sensor letting sub-100-gram drones navigate by touch rather than sight. Two whiskers mounted on the drone's front connect to miniature pressure sensors that detect surface contact, letting the craft estimate depth, avoid obstacles, and map its surroundings even without visibility.
