FBI and Coast Guard board two hacked oil tankers off US coast

US Coast Guard cybersecurity teams and FBI agents boarded two oil tankers in the Gulf of Mexico between August 21 and 24 after discovering that hackers had compromised the vessels' networks, gaining apparent access to navigation, propulsion, and cargo systems. One tanker, identified as VL Prosperity, reportedly had its speed and fuel systems interfered with and lost communications for over a day while sailing from Egypt to the US.
