The Outsiders is a beautiful new exercise app from the developers of Gentler Streak

Today, the developers behind the app are introducing The Outsiders, which takes the same approach to high-level training. Here’s what it looks like A familiar approach to performance training Gentler Streak is an App Store favorite because, instead of taking the standard “push-it-to-the-limit” attitude to exercise, it focuses on rewarding and recovering for a more pleasa

Lawmakers Panic As They Realize China May Beat the US to the Moon

During a Senate Commerce Committee hearing this week, experts warned that the United States is at risk of China beating it to the Moon as NASA's Artemis program continues to lag behind. Earlier this month, China's lunar exploration program tested its "Lanyue" lunar lander at a facility outside of Beijing, declaring that it's hoping to land the first Chinese astronauts on the Moon before the end of the decade. That's well within the margin of error of NASA's first crewed landing attempt, Artemis

Inverting the Xorshift128 random number generator

CVE-2025-7783 is a very recent vulnerability affecting a lot of applications in the Node.js ecosystem including those which use axios or the deprecated request library. In all honesty, this vulnerability is really an edge case that is extremely unlikely to be exploited: it is dependent upon a number of events that are not normally present. One of those events is the attacker having access to five consecutive outputs of JavaScript Math.random( ) , which allows the attacker to predict future outpu

My Secret Weapon for All-Season Campervan Adventures Is This Portable AC

CNET's key takeaways The Wave 3 lists for $1,300, but often drops to $900. The optional battery pack adds between $550 and $900, depending on sales and deals. The Wave 3 offers enough cooling and heating for small spaces and does so reasonably quietly (it's still an air conditioner after all). While portable, the Wave 3 with the battery is fairly heavy at 55.1 pounds. A few years ago, I built a campervan out of a Ford Transit Connect. My goal when designing it was "tent replacement," not "ye

From the impeccably preserved mummies of Egypt to psychoactive substance residue that remained at the bottom of a clay vessel for thousands of years, it seems as if some remnants of the past, even if not all are immediately visible, have defied the ravages of time. Chewing betel nuts is a cultural practice in parts of Southeast Asia. When chewed, these reddish nuts, which are the fruit of the areca palm, release psy

Dicing an Onion, the Mathematically Optimal Way

This is a project about onions and math. Why? Because tens of millions of people are curious about how to properly dice an onion, according to YouTube. In 2021, chef and food writer J. Kenji López-Alt broke out some math to get optimal uniform piece sizes. But there is more than one way to dice an onion… This is an onion. (Well, a simplified cross-section of one.) We’ve cut it in half lengthwise, using a sharp knife to reduce the chance of injury and onion-induced crying. From here, what’s the

The 40-minute special directed by Erik Wiese is centered around Charlie Brown's

Angle brackets in a Nix flake world

At DEFCON33, the Nix community had its first-ever presence via nix.vegas and I ended up in fun conversation with tomberek 🙌. “What fun things can we do with < and > with the eventual deprecation of NIX_PATH ? The actual 💡 was from tomberek and this is a demonstration of what that might look like without necessitating any changes to CppNix itself. As a very worthwhile aside, the first time presence of the Nix community at DEFCON was fantastic and I am extra appreciative to numinit and RossComp

4k NASA employees opt to leave agency through deferred resignation program

Nearly 4,000 NASA employees have opted to leave the space agency through the Trump administration's deferred resignation program, NASA said on Saturday. The cuts amount to an estimated 20% of NASA's workforce, and will reduce the agency from 18,000 to 14,000 employees, NASA spokesperson Cheryl Warner said in a statement shared with NPR. The total number includes the agency's loss of 500 other workers due to normal attrition, she said. During a second round of the program, which closed at midni

Intel provided more detail about the scope of its planned job cuts and other business changes while sharing its second-quarter earnings results . Reports in April suggested that Intel could eliminate around 20 percent of its staff in a restructuring plan. Today, the chipmaker said it anticipates having a core workforce of 75,000 employees by the end of 2025. That's about a third less than the 108,900 people it employed at the close of the previous fiscal year. These cuts are part of the company

Trump’s order to make chatbots anti-woke is unconstitutional, senator says

The CEOs of every major artificial intelligence company received letters Wednesday urging them to fight Donald Trump's anti-woke AI order. Trump's executive order requires any AI company hoping to contract with the federal government to jump through two hoops to win funding. First, they must prove their AI systems are "truth-seeking"—with outputs based on "historical accuracy, scientific inquiry, and objectivity" or else acknowledge when facts are uncertain. Second, they must train AI models to
