Apple is expected to launch a brand new Apple TV 4K this fall, possibly as early as next week. Coincidentally, Dolby just happened to unveil its major new Dolby Vision 2 standard today, which could be a great match for the new Apple TV hardware.
Apple TV 4K has a strong history of supporting major video standards
Apple TV 4K has long been a premium option in a market flooded with more affordable alternatives.
One way Apple has sought to justify its higher price point is through supporting the best video and audio standards in the home theater industry.
For example, current Apple TV 4K hardware supports a wide array of 4K standards, such as Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 4K HDR, and 4K SDR.
Thus, it seems a near-certainty that Apple will end up supporting the new Dolby Vision 2 standard that just debuted.
And the timing of today’s Dolby release makes it possible that Apple’s soon-to-be-unveiled new Apple TV 4K hardware could support the technology at launch or shortly thereafter.

Dolby Vision 2 also comes with a “redesigned and even more powerful image engine.” Additionally, Authentic Motion is a new feature that will “make scenes feel more authentically cinematic without unwanted judder on a shot-by-shot basis.”
Hisense is the first brand to announce support on its TVs. However, with the popularity of the original Dolby Vision, no doubt we’ll see many other TV brands follow.
