Meta just leaked its new smart glasses with a built-in display ahead of Meta Connect

For the past few months, multiple outlets reported that Meta was likely to announce its first display-enabled smart glasses at its yearly Connect event, scheduled for September 17.

Today, an unlisted YouTube video all but confirmed many of its rumored features. Here are the details.

The glasses feature a smart band for interface control

Meta’s partnership with EssilorLuxottica is perhaps one of the best-timed deals in recent tech history. When Meta released the first-gen RayBan smart glasses, it focused on first-person video capture, it didn’t really make a splash.

That changed with its AI-powered second-gen glasses, which helped it sell 2 million units, and strengthened Meta’s collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, paving the way for the recent launch of Oakley-branded smart glasses.

At the same time, the company has spent the better part of the last year showcasing a prototype called Orion, its display-enabled smart glasses, which it said upfront wouldn’t be put for sale. Instead, Orion’s job was to help the company gather feedback and develop a cheaper version, likely to be announced later in 2025.

Which brings us to today’s leak. Just ahead of this week’s Connect event, UploadVR came across a now-removed unlisted YouTube video that featured the new glasses, which will be released under the RayBan and Oakley brands, unlike previous rumors that said that this could be a standalone Meta product.
