Netflix Wednesday With Wednesday, Tim Burton has found further gold to mine in the Addams Family story canon. The series follows Wednesday Addams, played with deadpan delight by Jenna Ortega, as she's sent off to attend Nevermore Academy -- the school for outcasts. Throughout the first season, Wednesday investigates a murder mystery plaguing the school and the nearby town of Jericho. She may not make friends easily, but she definitely leaves her mark (as does the program).
Justin Downing/Netflix Kaos Netflix's dark comedy takes place in a world where Greek gods and humans co-exist. It's a dysfunctional, misunderstood relationship, to be sure. Jeff Goldblum stars as Zeus, who reigns over Mount Olympus with a neurotic, power-hungry fist. Other gods featured in the series include Zeus's sister Hera (Janet McTeer), his son Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan), Prometheus (Stephen Dillane), Hades (David Thewlis), Poseidon (Cliff Curtis) and Medusa (Debi Mazar). If you're looking for something delightfully weird and different, this is the show for you.
Netflix Half Bad: The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself Inspired by the first book in Sally Green's Half Bad trilogy, the short-lived series follows a young man as he tries to find his place in the world. It's worth noting that he's the illegitimate son of the world's most notorious witch. Now, he has to tap into his powers before he turns 17, or things will go from bad to much, much worse. Unfortunately, the show was canceled after one season. However, that's good news, as it makes it an easy binge.
Christian Geisnaes/Netflix Ragnarok The popular Norwegian drama centers on a teenage boy named Magne who discovers he's the reincarnation of Thor, the god of thunder. Drawing on Norse mythology as its foundation, the coming-of-age series unfolds in a town ravaged by pollution and climate change, as a battle between good and evil unfolds.
Netflix I Am Not Okay With This I Am Not Okay With This is based on the Charles Forsman comic book and only lasted one season, due to scheduling complications sparked by the pandemic. That's sad news, as this comedy had a lot of promise. Starring Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Olef, the show follows the struggles of a teenage girl who has to juggle issues with her sexuality, her family and high school while trying to make sense of some newly discovered superpowers.
