Back at CES in January, LG caught the attention of Mac users by teasing a new UltraFine 6K Display with Thunderbolt 5. The company, however, was ultra tight-lipped on details about the display, including pricing and availability. If a new product listing from B&H is to be believed, the highly anticipated LG UltraFine 32U990A will be available for pre-order tomorrow for $1,999.99. Here are some of the highlights from the product listing about the LG UltraFine 32U990A: 31.5″ 16:9 IPS Black Panel UHD 6K 6144 x 3456 at 60 Hz 450 Nits Brightness, 600 Nits Brightness in HDR 2000:1 Contrast Ratio 98% DCI-P3 & 99.5 Adobe RGB Coverage Integrated USB-C Hub & KVM 1x DisplayPort 1x HDMI 2x USB-C (Thunderbolt 5) with USB PD 140 W 3x USB-C That resolution matches Apple’s Pro Display XDR and comes out to 218 pixels-per-inch. Apple released the Pro Display XDR in 2019 and continues to sell it for $4,999 (or $5,999 if you want a stand). Like the Pro Display XDR, the LG UltraFine 32U990A also doesn’t have built-in speakers or a webcam. The Pro Display XDR, however, has higher brightness both in normal usage (1,000 nits) and in HDR mode (1,600 nits). In terms of design, the LG UltraFine 32U990A bares a lot of resemblance to Apple’s Pro Display XDR, at least in terms of how it looks in the pictures. The jury is still out on overall build quality, which was a major problem on the LG UltraFine 5K. According to the images, however, it does feature a fully height, tilt, and rotation adjustable stand. Meanwhile, Bloomberg recently reported that Apple is “nearing mass production” on two new Mac monitors. It remains to be seen how these compare to the existing Pro Display XDR and Studio Display. I’d reserve some skepticism on this information for the time being. As it stands right now, LG hasn’t announced anything itself about its launch plans for the UltraFine 6K If this B&H listing is correct, however, the UltraFine 6K looks surprisingly tempting.
